We try and try, but our dive knives are not good enough to cut the cable. Thomas carries "Sea Snips" on his buoyancy control device, and sends the other instructor back to the boat to get them.

 

The damage is very bad, and we carefully try to cut and untangle the ray. He is cooperative, but afraid of us. It's a long, delicate process as we work hard to free him.

 

The cuts are deep and many, but we free him and make sure he is strong enough to move around.
